EduText Schools FAQs
What is EduText? We hope you have watched the video. EduText is a SMS Text messaging service that allow a school to send unlimited messages to parents or subscribers.
What is the Cost? These services are FREE to the school, and are funded by sponsorship of local businesses.
Who is responsible for aquiring sponsors? EduText will get all sponsors.
What if our school has no sponsors? Your school can still use the service and EduText will get sponsorship.
What if our school does not want sponsors? This would need to be discussed with EduText. As these are costly services it is important that sponsorship occurs to financially facilitate the services.
Do these services cost our parents or subscribers? No, this will not cost the school or its subscribers anything. It is recommended that any subscriber have some form of a unlimited texting plan with his/her wireless carrier. This is not the responsibility of the school or EduText.
Are these services secure? Yes, 100% secure, 100% spam free, 100% permission based, double-opt-in, 100% privacy.
Who is able to see or access the subscribers phone numbers? No one can see any number. We provide total privacy to the cell phone owner and do not allow any access to numbers. The school will know how many parents have subscribed but will not know the actual phone number, nor will the sponsor or EduText.
How does a parent subscribe to the service? This can only be done from the cell phone through a quick double-opt-in, permission based function. Instructions will be provided for the school to use.
If a subscriber wants to unsubscribe how hard is it? A subscriber who no longer wants to receive messages can simply type "STOP" in any message and they will be immediately removed from the system and will receive no more messages. If they want to start receiving messages again they would need to go through the opt-in process again.
Can a Parent be a sponsor? Yes but would have to go through the same sponsor approval process from the school and EduText.
Who controls and sends the messages? The school will initiate all messages. A school official will be assigned to operate the system. All access is secure and under password protection.
When and how do the sponsors messages get sent? Sponsor messages are called a "trailer" message and are thus attached to the end of the schools message. They are short and will allow the sponsors name, website, or business phone. They will only be sent as an attached trailer to the school. The sponsor has no way of sending messages direct, that way all sponsor messages can be viewed and approved by the school prior to being sent out.
Is there any privacy risk to parents or subscribers? NO, as no cell number is able to be viewed by anyone. EduText can not even see the subscribers numbers. We are able to see how many subscribers, just not the phone numbers.
Does the school need special equipment? No, you can access the admin area through our web based site. This service can be accessed from any internet location, from a pc, laptop, or smartphone under password. This allows a school official to send a message from home in the event of a closure.
How can a local business become a sponsor? Simply contact your local EduText Representative. If you dont know who the EduText Rep is in your area call EduText at 1-800-705-1910.
What Rules are there for becoming a sponsor? You must have a product or service that is authorized to be on school grounds, then approval from EduText, then Final approval by the school you will be sponsoring. No commercial advertising of tobacco, alcohol or guns. No churches, tavern, bar, pub, liquor, clubs, dance theaters, gun manufactures, pawn shops, political campaigns, or any topic of political or controversial nature.
How long does the approval process take? We try to provide a 24 hour turn around, of course the school official will work this into his/her schedule.
Can my business sponsorship be turned down? Yes by either EduText or the School with all decisions final.
How much is the cost of sponsorship? This is entirely negotiated with EduText and is based on size of the schools subscribership and message frequency. EduText does not set minimums or maximums as schools vary in size.
How large can a sponsor message be? These are short sponsored by Text messages that can include your name, website link, phone number.
Who sends the messages? Each school has an assigned school official that will send out messages. All schools can get assistance from EduText.
How do I know how many people will receive a sponsor message? EduText can provide you this information upon request in writing.
How many messages is the sponsored school required to send? There is no binding requirement on the school, however as everyone knows these services are expensive and funded only through sponsorship, EduText does recommend to the school to be sending at least 3 messages per week.
Is there any message a sponsorship would not be attached to? Yes, any School Security, Amber Alert, Fire, Life Threatening or Law Enforcement type message will not have a sponsor message attached so that there is NO confusion in the message content.
